HABITAT FOR HUMANITY GROUNDBREAKING WEDNESDAY, APRIL 21

Hello Everyone!

Tomorrow is the Groundbreaking Ceremony for our very own Habitat for Humanity Project at Perry Hall on Wednesday, April 21, 2010 from 11:00am - 1:00pm!

The Perry Hall Project is a 12 unit condominium conversion on property located at 2912 S. 17th Street--the intersection of 17th Street South and South Walter Reed Drive. This project is an excellent opportunity to provide affordable housing for people who provide goods and services to our community and make a positive contribution to our county's affordable housing initiative.

Car Wash To Support TJ Middle School Music Department

The Jefferson MS Music Department will be holding a fundraiser car wash on Saturday, April 10, 2010 from 10:00am until 2:00pm in the Jefferson MS Parking Lot (125 S. Old Glebe Rd., Arlington). Donations are appreciated. Funds raised through the car wash will benefit the music department, primarily to provide financial assistance to students attending our Spring Trip to Busch Gardens in Williamsburg, VA.

This FREE event commemorates the Congressional
 
Charter of April 12, 1810 which established the Columbia Turnpike Co. for the construction of the Pike. The program speakers will discuss the rich history of Columbia Pike from the days of the Civil War to today's culturally diverse urban community, and the dynamic revitalization that is currently underway.
 
 
Event Speakers:
  • Sara Collins, Arlington historian and Columbia Pike expert
  • Dr. Talmadge Williams of the Black Heritage Museum of Arlington;
  • Todd Endo of the Urban Alternative;  and Arlington County Board
  • Chris Zimmerman, Arlington County Board Vice-Chairman
Special Performance by:
The Columbia Pike Community Chorus.
