FREE FLU SHOTS

Neighbors,

You can get a free seasonal influenza vaccine at the Fenwick Building at 800 South Walter Reed Drive, across the driveway from the Columbia Pike Library.

We have free injectable (i.e. flu shot) vaccine available for people 36 months and older from 9 am to 4:30 pm Monday through Friday. We will continue to give free vaccine as long as our supply lasts.

If you are interested, please walk into the lobby and let the receptionist know you are interested.

The Columbia Pike Transit Initiative project team warmly invites you to attend one of our upcoming public meetings. Both meetings will be identical in format so please come to the one most convenient for you!

Arlington County and Fairfax County are proposing a streetcar line in the Columbia Pike corridor. The two counties have engaged the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (also known as Metro), to prepare a combined Environmental Assessment/Alternatives Analysis and are in coordination with the Federal Transit Administration for Federal environmental procedures and capital funding.

The project, known as the Columbia Pike Transit Initiative, would extend along Columbia Pike (Route 244) from the Bailey's Crossroads/Skyline area in Fairfax County to Pentagon City in Arlington County. Alignment and yard options extend to the Northern Virginia Community College within the City of Alexandria, which is participating in the project.

In case you have not heard yet, the Washington-Lee High School football team beat the Yorktown High School football team for the first time in 28 YEARS!!  The Generals advance to the second round of the Northern Region playoffs and will play at Hayfield High School next Friday, November 19, at 7:30 pm.  Congratulations, Generals, and thank you to the Sun Gazette for the following story:

Global Dining Week on the Pike: 8-14 November

CPRO is launching another Pike event to highlight the area's rich cultural diversity and vibrant community. From November 8-14, Global Dining Week will showcase the area's international cuisine. Eight restaurants from four continents will feature cities that represent their fare, and offer customers meals at discounted or fixed prices.

Culinary diversity is not new on Columbia Pike - the 22204 zip code is home to people from more than 120 countries, and is one of the most diverse area in the country.  For Global Dining Week, eight restaurants will feature different cities from around the world.  The restaurants are: ABI's Grill, Attila's Restaurant, DAMA Pastry and Restaurant, Manee Thai, P. Brennan's Irish Pub, Rincome Thai Cuisine, The Salsa Room, Twisted Vines Wine Bar. All will feature special offers during this week.

Pike Transit Initiative to hold Public Meetings

Arlington County and Fairfax County are proposing a streetcar line in the Columbia Pike corridor. The project, known as the Columbia Pike Transit Initiative, would extend along Columbia Pike  from the Bailey's Crossroads/Skyline area in Fairfax County to Pentagon City in Arlington County. Alignment and yard options extend to the Northern Virginia Community College within the City of Alexandria, which is participating in the project.
 
The Pike Transit Initiative is holding two meetings in order to inform Pike Residents and the General Public about the progress of the project.

Both meetings will be identical in format, so please come to the one most convenient for you!

  • Thursday, November 18th, 7pm, at the Walter Reed Community Center (2909, 16th St. South and S Walter Reed Dr., Arlington)

SuddenSpace pop-up Gallery open through November 

Continuing the tradition of alternative gallery spaces, Art in Transition-suddenspace celebrates art and the activation of dormant architecture through the rich use of materials that range from large scale sculpture and installation to intimate paintings.   19 artists will exhibit work exploring the ephemeral to mundane; from the traditional to the unexpected in 5,000 square feet of empty retail space from November 3rd -29th.

Art, Wine and Food!


The twenty-seven professional artists at COLUMBIA PIKE ARTISTS' STUDIOS cordially invite their patrons, the public and the media to visit their private studios during their annual Gala Open House (at the intersection Col. Pike / S Walter Reed [map]).  

This is a wonderful opportunity to see a juried exhibition in the gallery, tour the entire complex, and meet with artists in their private workspaces. Complementary wine and food will be served throughout the evening.
The event is free and open to the public.

Urgent Care Center opens on November 22.
This month, CPRO welcomes a new urgent care center to the neighborhood. Located in the Westmont Shopping Center (Columbia Pike / S. Glebe Road) [map]. Simplicity Urgent Care sees patients seven days a week, no appointment necessary (8am-8pm weekdays and 10am-4:00pm weekends).
The center accepts most major insurance plans, fills prescriptions on-site, and always offers fast, friendly care. Simplicity treats such illnesses and injuries as sore throat, cold, flu, cuts and abrasions, strains and sprains, and urinary tract infections. Additional services include immunizations, x-rays, occupational medicine, and travel medicine.

Wendroff & Associates CPA moves to new offices.
Wendroff & Associates CPA has moved into it's new offices on 2300 Ninth Street South, Suite 305. The new office will better accommodate Wendroff & Associate staff, which has added several new accountants and services in the past year including QuickBooks Training and Review Services, MultiState Tax Research, Merger and Acquisition Planning, and International Tax Consulting. Neighborhood Improvement Projects

Arl. County awarded the improvement of the Butler Holmes Park, 111 S Barton St. [map] (Penrose) to a commercial contractor. The first phase of the project is funded with $375,000 through the Neighborhood Conservation Program. The currently approved funds will cover the cost for the first phase of the project (improved playground, pic-nic area and amenities).  A future second phase will focus on landscaping improvements. Works are progressing at the Walter Reed Community Center, 2909, 16th St. South [map] (Columbia Heights). A new peripheral fence and enhanced stone entrance features are currently under construction.



Funding has been approved for new neighborhood signage for Foxcroft and Columbia Heights.

"Work in Progress" Photo-exhibit at the CPRO office.

The photo-exhibit "Work in Progress" returns to a public space on the Pike: the CPRO-Office, 2611 Columbia Pike [map]. The Pike Documentary Project Photographer Team loaned CPRO 19 truly impressive pieces from their vast collection of photographs and Pike residents' personal stories. The exhibit is a celebration of the people and the unique diversity that characterizes our area.

Come and sing Vivaldi's "Gloria." The Columbia Pike Community Chorus is welcoming singers for their December 19, 2010 performance of Antonio Vivaldi's "Gloria."
