> ARLINGTON, Va. – The Arlington County Police Department will close numerous streets in Arlington on Sunday, October 31, for the 35th Annual Marine Corps Marathon. The race begins at 8 a.m. on Route 110. Extra security measures will also be in place. Residents and motorists can expect delays and should allow extra travel time in those areas.

> • Eastbound Washington Boulevard closed at I-395

> • Westbound Lee Highway, from N. Scott Street to N. Kirkwood Road (Closed to thru traffic. Local traffic will have access by taking N. Scott Street to N. Veitch Street. Citizens leaving the area can use westbound Lee Highway to Spout Run Drive and exit the area via the George Washington Parkway.)

Remembering Freedman's Village

Arlington Historian Sara Collins and Dr. Talmadge Williams of the Black Heritage Museum of Arlington will revisit this important chapter of Arlington and Pike History.
In the late 1800s, Freedman's Village was home to thousands of freed slaves. Located in what is now the southern part of Arlington National Cemetery, this community was intended to be temporary. But it lasted for almost an entire Century, well into the 1890s when it was closed and the residents dispersed - many of them to neighboring areas along Columbia Pike.
The event will take place in the Trinity Episcopal Church, in close vicinity to the original Freedman's Village location.
