Exerpt from an email forwarded from Lynn Durbin:
Dear Friends and Neighbors:
These are extraordinary times for our nation, our state and our community. Everywhere you turn, you hear or read stories about how our national economy is affecting all walks of life, and the Arlington Public Schools is no exception.
Based on the most recent revenue forecasts from the state and county, APS is facing as much as a $47 million deficit for the 2010-11 school year. It is imperative that we continue our efforts to ensure a high quality education for our children while crafting a fiscally-sound plan for the coming school year.
Over the past few months, APS has held a number of community conversations and forums about the budget challenges that we face. If you haven’t attended one of those meetings, or even if you have attended but still have additional ideas, please take the time to complete our online budget survey to share your ideas and viewpoint. The survey is at www.apsva.us/budget/communitysurvey .
Although I can’t promise that we will implement everyone’s ideas, all feedback is welcome. The information from the survey will help me as I work with staff in the coming weeks to develop a budget proposal that helps the Arlington Public Schools continue to provide excellent support for our community’s greatest asset – our children.
Sincerely,
Pat Murphy
Superintendent
