StormwaterWise Landscapes Program - Applications due by February 29 th !! Have you been thinking about installing a raingarden, cistern, or pervious pavers? The Arlington StormwaterWise Landscapes Program provides County residents and business owners with funding to install small-scale practices that will reduce stormwater runoff from their property. Through a lottery system, 40 applicants will be selected for the program pilot in 2012. Learn more on the web site or check out the webinar about the pro gram:

Starting Your Vegetable Garden From Seeds Indoors. Wednesday, February 22, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m . Join us to learn the basics of successful plant propagation, including seed selection, requirements for germination, tips on transplanting, and the importance of hardening plants before moving them outdoors. There will be two of these same events in different locations. One in Arlington, and one in Alexandria. The information for both events is listed below. EcoSavvy Gardening Symposium – Birds, Bats, Bees and Bugs! Saturday, February 25. 8:30 AM – 3 PM. Green Spring Master Gardeners are committed to showing homeowners and gardening professionals how everyone can make a difference in the health of our environment. The 8th Annual Symposium will explore the world of Birds, Bats, Bees and Bugs. Sponsored by Virginia Cooperative Extension. Registration fee for the symposium is $50. Call by February 17 to order a vegetarian or non-vegetarian lunch for $12.

Spring Lawn Care for Northern Virginia. Tuesday, March 6, 6:30 - 8:30 pm . Join environmental and outdoor educators from Northern Virginia to view local schools showcasing their green school projects and investigate resources to help your school go green. Arlingtonians for a Clean Environment Annual Meeting. Wednesday, March 14, 6:30 - 8:30 PM . The theme for this event is alternative transportation with a look at electric cars, bikesharing, electric charging stations and more. Several electric/hybrid cars will be on display. Green Fire Film Showing. Thursday, March 29 th , 7 PM. "Green Fire" is the first full-length, high definition documentary film ever made about legendary conservationist Aldo Leopold. ECARE. Saturday, April 7 8:30 AM – 3 PM . Dispose of hazardous household materials, computer monitors, and televisions ($15 fee for computers and a $20 fee for televisions), and recycle small metal items, electronics, shoes, clothes, linens, eyeglasses, and durable medical equipment. Serviceable bikes will be collected by Bikes for the World (BfW) to be sent to countries where they are needed for basic transportation. E-CARE is open to Arlington residents only; bring your ID.
