Columbia Pike/Washington Blvd Meeting March 20

3/20 COMMUNITY MEETING: Washington Blvd & Columbia Pike Interchange Improvement Project

The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) and its partners will host a Pardon Our Dust Community Meeting on Tues., March 20th at 7 p.m. in the Carver Community Center 1415 South Queen St.

VDOT is preparing to begin construction this spring to replace the aging bridge, improve the flow of Long Branch stream, and reconfigure the interchange to enhance safety and traffic flow. Please join us to discuss the status of the project, the upcoming construction, and the planned maintenance of traffic. Visit VDOT's project web page for more information

StormwaterWise Landscapes Program - Applications due by February 29 th !! Have you been thinking about installing a raingarden, cistern, or pervious pavers? The Arlington StormwaterWise Landscapes Program provides County residents and business owners with funding to install small-scale practices that will reduce stormwater runoff from their property. Starting Your Vegetable Garden From Seeds Indoors. Wednesday, February 22, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m . Arlington County Leaf Season Update

The 2011 - 2012 leaf collection season is here.  

 

Leaf vacuum trucks are finishing up zone three and preparing to start zones four and five and the second pass of zone one!  Check the schedule below to see when the trucks will be in your neighborhood.  

 

You can track the progress of our leaf trucks on our Facebook page!  Click on the "Vacuum Leaf Progress Map" tab on the left to see where the vacuum trucks have vacuumed.  

 

Have a huge leaf pile? Spot the vacuum truck in your neighborhood? Snapped a great photo of an Arlington tree in its fall colors? Post your photo on our Facebook page or tweet it to @ArlingtonDES and we'll add it to our photo album by you!

 

Vacuum Collection:  November 14 - December 24, 2011

  • Crews will complete two passes through each neighborhood between November and December, Monday through Saturday, except Thanksgiving Day.
  • Look for large, bright yellow and orange Leaf Collection signs in your neighborhood two to three days before crews arrive.
  • Check email or call the Leaf Collection Information Line for schedule updates at 703.228.6565.
  • Plan accordingly with your contract lawn service to have leaves raked before scheduled pick-up or use the County's leaf bag collection service.

Vacuum Collection Schedule

To determine when the leaf vacuum will be in your neighborhood look up your civic association below.  The date under which your civic association is listed is when the vacuum will start it's pass through your neighborhood.  Be sure to have your leaves ready the night before the vacuum is scheduled to be in your area.

If you do not see your civic association listed the leaf vacuum will be in your neighborhood after December 7.  We will send out the schedule for the next wave of vacuuming on December 2.

 

If the vacuum collection schedule does not meet your needs, or if you miss the first vacuum pass, residents have the option to bag their leaves for the weekly bag collection or wait for the second vacuum pass.

 

Leaf Bag Collection

  • Place leaves in biodegradable bags only. Do not use plastic bags!
  • Leaf bags will be collected on the next business day after your regular trash collection day until Friday, January 13, Monday - Friday.
  • No service Christmas and New Year's Day.
  • Note: If your trash is collected Friday, your last leaf bag will be collected Monday, January 9. Bags will not be collected January 16.
