COLUMBIA PIKE LAND USE AND HOUSING STUDY PUBLIC MEETINGS

From our friends at the Pike Wire:

"A series of public meetings, known as the Columbia Pike Charrette is set kick off on June 24 until June 30th. The County plans to use these meetings to finalize the way forward in transforming Columbia Pike into a more walkable Main Street, with more transit options and shops while embracing, preserving and enhancing the Pike's economic and cultural diversity.

At the three sessions to be held at the Sheraton National Hotel (900 S. Orme Street), Columbia Pike residents can work with design professionals to put ideas on maps.

The series schedule is:
* Fri. June 24, 7-9:30 p.m.: Kick Off Presentation
* Sat. June 25, 9 a.m.-2 p.m: Hands-on working session with breakout groups
* Thurs. June 30, 7-9:30 p.m.: Work In Progress Presentation

The county planning department asks that attendees RSVP by June 13 by emailing columbiapikeplanning@arlingtonva.us.

A 7-day open design studio will also be held as part of the Columbia Pike Land Use and Housing Study. The design studio will be open at Penrose Square for residents to view drawings and chat with the designers.

The finished Columbia Pike Neighborhoods Plan will steer public and private investment decisions to match what the county says are community goals. The County says that the community goals are "enhancing the quality of life along the corridor, creating a walking and bicycle friendly community, supporting the planned streetcar investment coming to the Pike, and sustaining a housing supply that serves a diverse population."
